Country vs Country - Vampire Academy

It's been a while but here is my 5th Cover vs Cover post. This time around, we're looking at the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead.

These are the covers I own and I liked them well enough until it came to buying Last Sacrifice and I couldn't get the same cover here in the UK so I bought the UK cover and then looked up the rest of the series.

I LOVE these covers and it annoys me that I have the US covers. To the point that I'm going to re-buy the entire series in the UK covers so I have covers that I like.

What covers are your favourite?

  1. While both sets of covers have strong repetitive themes, the latter cuts a much stronger impression on me. It's probably because photos of attractive humans are so insanely overdone for cover art right now, and so the second set seems thematically intriguing, while the first set just seems generic.

The second set also reminds me of China Mieville's covert art series, with the black background and semi-abstract colored art almost stenciled in. That is definitely my favorite series of covers for an author.

  2. I don't know...While I'm not a fan of the ever-changing models in the US covers, I like 'em more simply because the red in the UK version is just too obnoxious. Perhaps if it was burgundy or the background color was black instead it would've been better. I don't know, something more subtle. In the end, don't judge a book by it's cover! Especially not Mead's! :)

  3. I agree with John, covers of ridiculously attractive models are so overdone that it, in my case, is starting to be a turn off when it comes to choosing which books to read. Yes, I did just admit that I judge a book by its cover, but hey, who doesn't?

I definitely like the second set better than the first, and fortunately that's also the ones that are available at my local book store.

    Happy Reading!

  4. I think I really like both sets. What bothers me though is the US covers were originally different. My first three paperback copies of the series are different then the rest of the series and I really hate how all these publishers keeping changing covers half way through the series. (Examples: Beth Revis's Across the Universe, Holly Black's Cursed Worker series, Andrea Cremer's Nightshade series, Jessica Spotwood's Born wicked series, and on and on and on. and many of these books are my favorite series!)

  5. I can honestly care less the books are amazing and that's all that matters to me! :D As long as the movie comes out as scheduled and it's as amazing as the books then I'm satisfied with life! (:
